To some people in Western Europe poverty means not being able to afford a 3 week vacation in Brazil.
For people in other parts of the world, poverty means having to fight daily to be able to stay alive.
Brazil is an amazing country, but social imbalance cannot be ignored in light of the wonderful event called
Worldcup.
The problem is often that people in general become accustomed to whatever is going on in their countries on a social level until being presented a different reality allowing comparison to take place.
Pictures like these may not surprise Brazilians until they leave their country for a bit and visit a location where there is hardly any homelessness.
Overall Brazilians display a healthy amount of unity.
But nations where survival is a part of the daily game often have issues getting organized as social struggles demand more energy than in countries where everyone is guaranteed to be taken care of.
This soccer Worldcup presents Brazil in both ways: With all its glory and all of its struggle.
Here are my own thoughts:
Events like these do help a lot. First of all, people in Brazil will be presented with international views which sparks debates and brings solutions from places where social welfare has kept its lowest income citizens from living on the edge of survival.
